Charlie Craig (9) loses battle for life

Little Charlie Craig who had been battling myeloid leukaemia since January 2013 has sadly passed away following complications.

The brave nine-year-old spent the greater part of his life undergoing intensive treatment for leukaemia, including two bone marrow transplants. Following Charlie’s diagnosis, his family launched an urgent lifesaving donation drive in the hope that a stem cell match would be found.


He also had to fight a chronic condition, graft versus host disease (GVHD). He was admitted to hospital last month where he remained in a critical condition as the GVHD took its toll on Charlie’s lungs, skin and liver. 

He passed away on Friday at the Royal Belfast Hospital For Sick Children, surrounded by his family.

His mum Cliodhna, dad Fintan and sister Nancy are ‘heartbroken.’

Charlie’s uncle is Cookstown man Jim Eastwood who appeared on The Apprentice in 2011.

Requiem Mass will be held in St Patrick’s Church, Lisburn, on Monday, followed by burial in Blaris Cemetery.
