Children 5-11 to be offered COVID vaccine in Northern Ireland

Children aged 5-11 in Northern Ireland are to be offered a COVID vaccination.

It follows updated Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advice.

They will be offered two 10 mcg doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine with an interval of at least 12 weeks between doses. The paediatric dose is a third of the strength of an adult dose.

JCVI have advised that the intention of this offer is to increase the immunity of vaccinated individuals against severe COVID-19 in advance of a potential future wave.
