Church services halted due to coronavirus outbreak

Sunday services across Northern Ireland have been suspended until further notice due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Methodist Church in Ireland, the Presbyterian Church, and the Church of Ireland are halting services in a bid to ensure the safety of congregations.


The Church of Ireland said that ‘all Sunday and midweek services should be suspended.’

It said that the numbers of people attending funerals and weddings should also be kept ‘as low as possible.’

And it is advising that funeral services should be held in private ‘with no public announcement of the funeral arrangements.’

The Methodist Church has also put a halt to Sunday services and mid-week activities.

The Catholic Church has also suspended public masses, with some services moving online.
