Met Eireann has expressed concerns that Hurricane Lorenzo will hit the country on Thursday.
Met Eireann says Lorenzo is a large and powerful hurricane, and its hurricane and tropical-storm-force wind fields are expected to expand further during the next few days
Lorenzo has the potential to bring extreme weather conditions to The Azores, including strong winds, heavy rain, and waves. There is uncertainty in the exact track it will follow.
Lorenzo is moving north-north-eastward at 11 knots and it should pick up speed and move north-eastwards during the next day or two. Lorenzo is likely to head near or to the west of the western Azores late Tuesday and into Wednesday.
After that, its path is uncertain.
Lorenzo is currently a powerful hurricane, and the strongest on record this far north and east in the Atlantic basin.
