People in Northern Ireland are continuing to receive scam ‘close contact’ COVID-19 text messages to their mobile phones.
Police in conjunction with Scamwise NI are asking people to be aware of these scam texts informing people they ‘have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 (Omicron).’ It asks recipients to order a ‘mandatory test’ and there is a bogus link included.
The advice is –
1. Don’t open suspicious messages or links from numbers you don’t recognise.
2. Never provide your personal or bank details on links you’ve received by text.
3. Always use your bank or building society’s own app or website and don’t download software sent by text message.
