Belfast’s vibrant Indian community will be celebrated in the first of the council’s PEACE IV Culture Café events next week.
The events celebrate the diversity of multi-cultural Belfast.
This free, virtual event will take place on Monday 29 March from 12 noon to 1pm.
The Indian Community Centre Belfast will be taking part with a discussion on the Indian community’s journey to the city, integration into the city and contribution to the wider Belfast community.
The event is being held during Holi, the Indian Festival of Colours, with a reflection on Indian traditions and how the event will be celebrated in Belfast.
There will be a special showcase of Indian dance by the South Asian Dance Academy and a demonstration of Rangoli art – a popular Indian folk art used during cultural celebrations.
Councillor John Kyle, Chair of Belfast City Council’s Shared City Partnership, said the Culture Cafés celebrate the diversity of multi-cultural Belfast.
“They focus on minority communities across the city and promote a respect and understanding of these cultures. Each of our events will focus on a different culture.
“Our other two events, coming up in May and June, will shine a spotlight on our Polish and Chinese communities and their vibrant cultures and vital contribution to Belfast’s shared history,” he added.
The Culture Café Polish Community event will be held on Tuesday 11 May (12pm – 1pm) and the Culture Café Chinese Community event will take place on Wednesday 16 June (12pm –1pm).
