Collection money was stolen from Joymount Presbyterian Church in Carrickfergus following the Sunday service.
A large glass bottle containing £150 from collections, which was in the main front hall, has been emptied.
And a cash box containing £50 in an office upstairs was taken. This was the proceeds from the youth club outing fund.
The incident occurred sometime between 1pm and 8pm on November 25 (Sunday).
Police would like anyone with information to come forward.
“This is a pretty despicable one regardless of your religious inclination or how you feel about church etc but for some it is a place of more than simply worship. It provides a sense of refuge and hope for some people,” said a police spokesperson.
“Burglary in itself is a pretty despicable act as it is a major violation of someone’s home. But to burgle a church is quite simply low. It means a lot to some people and to have money taken that was set aside to help others is despicable,” added the spokesperson.
If anyone has information in relation to this despicable crime can they contact police on 101 with reference number 725 of 26/11/18 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
