Do not use sky lanterns as they can pose fire risk

Police are asking the public not to use sky lanterns to show their support for hard-working NHS staff.

They say it poses a fire risk and it can be an added burden on the emergency services during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Animal lovers too are pleading with people not to set sky lanterns alight, for fear of causing injuries.

‘While we fully understand people wanting to show their support for the NHS we would discourage the use of sky lanterns. At time of increased pressure on all emergency services sky lanterns pose a significant fire hazard. Please show your support for those on the frontline by clapping this evening,” said a police spokesperson.
