A 39-year-old man was shot in the knee and ankle by two men who approached him from behind as he got out of a vehicle last night (Monday) in west Belfast.
The incident happened shortly before 6pm in the Burnaby Walk area.
Detective Sergeant Keith Wilson said as the man was walking along the street, he was approached from behind by two men who shot him in the knee and ankle.
The driver of the vehicle then tried to manoeuvre his car to offer assistance to him.
“Whilst doing so, one of the gunmen approached the car and fired one shot in the direction of the vehicle. Fortunately he was not injured,” said the Detective Sergeant.
Detective Sergeant Wilson continued: “The perpetrators who carried out this shooting showed a total disregard for anyone living in this built up residential area. We are extremely fortunate that no-one else was seriously injured or that no-one lost their life.
“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone who has information that could assist us with our enquiries to contact detectives at Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1785 13/01/20.
