A local Ballymoney DUP councillor is to appear at Laganside Court next month ( 17th May 2018 ) over an alleged sexual incident in which took place in Belfast of April last year.
The Sunday World exclusively revealed yesterday morning that court documents show that Mr Stevenson will appear for the accused charges of ‘intentionally touching a female victim with the circumstances being that the touching was sexual’. The court document states that ‘she did not consent to the touching and you did not reasonably believe that she so consented.’
Causeway Coast Community reported yesterday morning that that Mr Stevenson has stepped down from from a number of local groups whilst this incident is being investigated. Mr Stevenson has also resigned as a director from Ullans Speakers Association on 12th April 2018. We have reached out to them for comment.
It is unclear at this stage if Mr Stevenson will step down from his council role. The Sunday World contacted the DUP for comment but has received no reply at this stage.
Councillor Ian Stevenson refused to answer any questions to the Sunday World.
The Ballymoney councillor has served the area for more than 20 years.
