Fifteen branches of fast food giant McDonald’s will be re-opening with a limited menu.
The breakfast menu is unavailable.
Fifteen of the 1,270 restaurants will open initially only for delivery orders. They will be staffed by smaller teams who will practice social distancing. The locations of the branches which are opening will be revealed soon.
New measures to protect staff and customers will be in place from May 13 when the stores will open.
Staff will also have their temperatures taken before beginning work.
The burger chain has also donated 400 tonnes of food to charities and food banks.
McDonald’s joins a range of fast food companies, including Nando’s and Burger King, to start phased re-openings.
The company’s 120,000 employees will be asked to confirm they are fit for work before returning. They will be provided with protective gear, including non-medical-grade face masks.
Each branch will be deep-cleaned before it reopens, and Perspex screens will be in place along with floor markings to indicate where people should stand. Staff and delivery workers will be asked to practise distancing.
Restaurants and pubs were included in the government shutdown measures, but they are allowed to prepare food for collection or delivery.
