Fireworks have been thrown at houses belonging to elderly and disabled people over the weekend.
A startling 30 calls alone were received by police this weekend in the northern region over the misuse of fireworks.
The consequences of these actions are all too obvious, police have said.
“It’s the end of September with a full month to Halloween and this weekend alone we have taken over 30 calls re fireworks being used in totally unacceptable ways in North Region,” said a police spokesperson. “The main reports are horrifying to say the least.”
Police said there will be more information released with regard to fireworks and fireworks safety in the coming month.
However, they’re asking people to be vigilant.
“For now I would appeal to everyone to play their part before it’s too late. When fireworks are on the street it’s nearly too late with everyone chasing their tails. Help us to stop the fireworks getting onto the streets illegally in the first place. We are dedicated to preventing them getting to the streets but as always we need your help,” said the spokesperson.
