Health Minister says time for looking at COVID restrictions removal is ‘this week’

Health Minister Robin Swann has said he is seeking legal guidance on how he can ‘replace remaining COVID restrictions – if not all- with clear guidance and advice.’

He said the time to look at removing them is ‘this week.’


Mr Swann was speaking following the resignation of First Minister Paul Givan, in relation to the Northern Ireland Protocol.

The NI Executive was due to meet on Thursday to discuss removing the remainder of the COVID restrictions.

“I am now seeking that legal guidance on how I myself can replace the bulk of the remaining restrictions, if not all of them, with clear guidance and advice,” said Mr Swann. “Having reviewed the data the time to take this step is this week.”

Another 3,105 positive cases and 2 deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours.
