A leadership contest is underway within the Ulster Unionist Party following weekend news that Steve Aiken is to resign.
The South Antrim assembly member has been at the helm of the UUP since November 2019.
He attributed his resignation to the party’s recent performance.
Upper Bann MLA Doug Beattie and Robbie Butler are understood to be candidates.
Mr Aiken’s departure follows the resignation of Arlene Foster as DUP leader and First Minister.
Wishing Steve well. He is a total gentleman, always helpful and has been a pleasure to work with in South Antrim. https://t.co/5fxG9WPNKw
