It features a breaded red pesto goujon in a wrap, rather than a meat style burger or nuggets.
McDonald’s is the latest food outlet to offer a vegetarian or vegan alternative for those following a plant-based diet.
The new Happy Meal Veggie Wrap was created with input from the Vegetarian Society and the Britmums network.
The goujon in served in a tortilla wrap and is made from yellow split peas, tomato, Arborio rice, sundried tomato pesto, tomato paste, red pepper, olive oil and herbs. It’s served with tomato ketchup and shredded lettuce.
The ingredients are dairy-free and vegan – however the wraps are toasted alongside the buns, which contain milk, so McDonald’s has to label it as vegetarian.
Marks and Spencer just announced that it is launching a vegan range with 60 new products, while Greggs is serving up a vegan sausage roll.
Millions of people are joining this year’s ‘Veganuary’, pledging to give up meat, dairy and fish.
