A 33-year-old man was arrested in west Belfast today (Wednesday 5 August) by detectives from the Paramilitary Crime Task Force, investigating ongoing criminality linked to the INLA.
A search of a house was conducted after a parcel containing a stun gun type weapon was intercepted by Border Force.
He has since been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 1st September. As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the PPS.
Detective Inspector Hamilton said as a result of the search, the man was arrested and a number of items were seized, which have now be taken for further examination.
“We continue to target the criminal activities of the INLA and all those involved in paramilitary activity and I would ask anyone with any information in relation to criminal activity to contact police on 101 or alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime,” he added.
