A 29-year-old man is due to appear in court charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to set one of his neighbours on fire.
Detectives are investigating the alleged incident which is reported to have happened outside a house in the Silverstream Avenue area of north Belfast this afternoon (Tuesday 21 April).
He is also charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
Police received a report at around 3.30pm that a man had allegedly doused a male neighbour ‘with some form of accelerant and attempted to set it alight.’
“The neighbour managed to evade his attacker, however, and the suspect was arrested by police a short time later. The 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in custody assisting officers with their enquiries,” said a PSNI spokesperson.
Detectives would ask anyone who witnessed the alleged incident or who may have mobile phone footage to contact them at Musgrave on 101 quoting reference number 1144 21/04/20.
