A man and four-year-old child were taken to hospital after being knocked down in Dunmurry.
The incident happened at the Upper Lisburn Road near St Anne’s Primary School yesterday afternoon.
The road was cordoned off by police for several hours following the accident.
A man in his 30s has been arrested.
A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said rapid response paramedics, two accident and emergency crews and one doctor attended the scene.
The Upper Lisburn Road has since reopened.
A PSNI spokesperson has this morning (Monday) appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Inspector Eastwood said: “Shortly before 3:50pm, it was reported that a man in his 80’s and a four-year-old child were struck by a car in the area.
“The man was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, that are described as serious. The child was also taken to hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be serious. A 37-year-old man is currently assisting police with their enquiries.”
“We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dash-cam footage available to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 947 21/10/18,” he added.
