A 23-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly making off in a taxi following a hit and run at the M2 off-slip at the Sandyknowes roundabout on Tuesday morning (25 June).
The incident happened just after 1:30pm
A blue VW Passat crashed into traffic lights causing damage to both the lights and the car.
The suspect is reported to have made off in a taxi towards Coleraine. There were no reports of any injuries.
“When the taxi arrived in the Coleraine area, the driver of the vehicle was identified and arrested in relation to the earlier hit and run road traffic collision. He was subsequently released pending a report to the PPS,” said Sergeant O’Hare.
“This detection resulted from information gathered at the scene to identify the suspect involved and his movements following the incident. Officers were able to arrest the man in the Newbridge Road area of Coleraine on suspicion of the offence, due to this information,” he said.
