Man arrested in Newtownabbey following searches in connection with probe into dissident republican activity

A 37-year-old man arrested in the Newtownabbey area last night (Thursday 29th August) by detectives from the PSNI’s Terrorism Investigation Unit under the Terrorism Act has been released unconditionally.

A 31 year old man arrested in west Belfast yesterday remains in police custody.


Both men were arrested following searches conducted in Newtownabbey and west Belfast on Thursday, in connection with an ongoing investigation into violent dissident republican activity linked to the Continuity IRA.

A number of items, including a quantity of suspected ammunition, have been seized for further examination.
