A man sustained face and body injuries after being assaulted by two men during an aggravated burglary at a house in the Ross Road area of west Belfast.
The incident happened just before 1am this morning (Thursday, 30 May).
Police received a report that two men had entered the property and assaulted the man occupant with what is believed to be a hammer.
A woman who was also in the property at the time was not injured – however she was left very shocked by the incident.
Detective Sergeant Corrigan is appealing to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity or vehicles in the area at the time to contact detectives at Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 55 30/05/19.
