Six newborn puppies who were stolen in a violent burglary in Manchester on Saturday morning, have been reunited with their mother.
It was feared the pups may not survive without their mother who was hit on the head with a machete by intruders.
The incident happened at Fernclough Road in Harpurhey, north Manchester, at around 9.30am on Saturday.
Two thugs attacked a man after following him into the house, and left him on the floor badly injured.
They then ransacked the flat, taking cash, keys and a phone, as well as the litter of five-week-old Staffordshire cross puppies.
The puppies were put into carrier bags and when Zena tried to stop them being stolen, she was hit on the head with a machete.
Police say officers from GMP’s City of Manchester Division attended a property in Moston and recovered all six dogs.
A 40-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and remains in custody for questioning.
“The staff cross puppies, who are all safe and well, have now been reunited with their mother, Zena, who is over the moon at their return,” said a police spokesperson.
The investigation remains ongoing and detectives are keen to speak to anyone with information that can assist.
Detective Constable Nick Kershaw of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “This has been a fast paced investigation and I am pleased to be able to say that last night, we attended at an address in Moston and recovered all six puppies.
“It has been a huge effort from the team to reunite the puppies with their mother before the worst happened, however our investigation is not finished there and we are keen to speak with anyone who can help us.
