A masked man armed with a hammer has escaped with cash from a shop in north Belfast.
The robbery happened at a shop on the Westland Road yesterday evening (Friday, March 12) just before 7:30pm.
Police say a masked man armed with a hammer entered the shop and approached the counter. He demanded a staff member hand over money from the till. The suspect subsequently ran off with a sum of money in the Oldpark Road direction.
The suspect is described as being aged in his late twenties, approximately 5ft 5″ tall, of a ‘broad build’. He’s reported to have worn a grey ‘bobble hat’ and a burgundy zip-up jacket.
Detective Constable Steph Beattie said thankfully, the staff member wasn’t physically injured but that it was a ‘terrifying ordeal’.
“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area between 7:25pm and 7:35pm and who saw what happened, or noticed anything suspicious, to call us. The number to call is 101, quoting reference 1709 of 12/03/21,” he added.
