A mural has been painted as a tribute to murdered north Belfast journalist Lyra McKee.
Powerful words she wrote to her teenage self accompany the painting which was produced by Dublin artist Emma Blake as part of the Hit The North Street Art Festival. The letter explained the struggles she faced growing up as a gay teenager in Northern Ireland.
The mural, which depicts the 29-year-old, has been drawing locals and tourists, with people stopping to take photographs opposite the Sunflower bar. Lyra was shot dead by dissident republicans during rioting in Londonderry last month.
The New IRA admitted responsibility for the killing in a statement to The Irish News and offered its ‘full and sincere apologies to the partner, family and friends of Lyra McKee for her death.’
