Murder probe begins as stabbing victim is named as Emma Jane McParland

A murder investigation has begun after a 39-year-old woman was found stabbed to death in a flat in the Haywood Avenue area of south Belfast on Wednesday (22 April).

She has been named as Emma Jane McParland.


The Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Darren McCartney said his thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this tragic time.

A 21-year-old man who was arrested as part of the investigation, has been charged with her murder and is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in Haywood Avenue at around 1.30am and saw or heard anything suspicious.

They can contact Detectives from the Major Investigation Team at Ladas Drive Police Station on 101 quoting reference 106 22/04/20. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
