The parents of Nora Anne Quoirin, who died while on holiday in Malaysia last August, are suing the operator of the The Dusun resort.
Their 15-year-old daughter went missing from the resort and was later found dead in a remote, hilly area.
Belfast-born Meabh and her husband Sebastian Quoirin have filed a €40,000 lawsuit against the operator of The Dusun.
The family alleges that the hotel operator failed to ensure adequate security, and did not have CCTV in place at the hotel.
The initial postmortem found that Nora probably starved and died of internal bleeding.
The police said there was no indication she had been abducted or sexually assaulted.
In an interview with RTE, Meabh said she still has many questions about her daughter’s death.
According to Free Malaysia Today, The Dusun director Haanim Bamadhaj said the resort was aware of the legal action even before it was reported by the media.
“The resort’s legal team is looking into the suit filed by Nora Anne’s parents,” she said.
According to local media, lawyer Sankara Nair, who is representing the family, said the civil suit was filed at the Seremban Sessions Court and case management will be on Jan 21.
