Instead of featuring models of different ethnicities and races as well as plus size women on its main Instagram page, Oh Polly has been the focus of criticism after creating a separate page to showcase them.
The fashion brand has since apologised for the separate ‘inclusive’ page, but some social media users have called the move ‘segregation.’
Oh Polly’s main Instagram account has more than two million followers. Oh Polly Inclusive, however, had just 3,600. It has now been removed from the platform.
Speaking on BBC Newsbeat, a spokesperson for the brand said they established a new page with the aim of allowing customers to discuss a wider range of issues.
“Improving diversity remains an absolute priority for us across all of our channels.
“We promise to continue listening to everyone in the Oh Polly community and, most importantly, learn from this mistake,” added the spokesperson.
Hi @ohpolly this isnt a way of being 'inclusive' it's called segregation. Creating a whole new page to place black women is disgusting especially when the aesthetic of your main page is white women with dark tans. ?. #poormarketing #ohpolly pic.twitter.com/ixURzMk7Hz
