P&O Ferries has made 800 of its staff redundant and cancelled all its services for the next few days.
It affects the popular Larne to Cairnryan route.
The move has been heavily criticised.
Workers were told the news via a Zoom video call.
According to the RMT Union, private security officers have been sent on board one ship docked at Larne to remove staff on board.
I’m deeply concerned at P&O announcement – due to the importance to Scotland of the Cairnryan/Larne route obviously, but also the impact on 100s of workers. Fire & rehire is an appalling practice & offends the basic principle of fair work. @scotgov will be seeking urgent talks
