Pope Francis begins the second day of his Irish trip with a visit to the Knock shrine.

He’s due to board a plane, which will take him to the pilgrimage site this morning.

And this afternoon, around half a million people are expected to gather in Phoenix Park in Dublin for a Papal Mass.

Yesterday (Saturday) the Pope acknowledged the ‘failure’ of the Catholic Church to address the ‘repugnant crimes’ of clerical sexual abuse.

The Vatican said he met with eight survivors of abuse.

This is the first papal visit to Ireland in almost four decades.

This year’s visit coincides with the World Meeting of Families, a global Catholic gathering which is organised every three years
