Scammers are cashing in on coronavirus as people rush to buy face masks and other items to help protect themselves.
According to Scamwise NI, scams include people buying face masks from fraudulent sellers, as well as a range of phishing emails which have been directed to householders.
The organisation says as there is so much media attention and concern around the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, it’s not surprising scammers have decided to cash in on it.

Scams connected to the outbreak have cost victims in the United Kingdom more than 800,000 pounds.
The Nation Fraud Intelligence Bureau said it has recorded 21 fraud claims since February 10, with many involving scams related to protection masks, Reuters reported. One victim, for example, reportedly paid 15,000 pounds for masks that didn’t arrive.
