A SPAR employee from south Belfast will be getting her waist-long hair cut today (Saturday) to raise money for two cancer charities.
Sharon Grimley who’s 32, and who works at the SPAR at Belvoir Rd, is hoping to raise cash for Friends of the Cancer Centre and Cancer Fund for Children through the initiative.
Her long locks will be donated to The Little Princess Trust which provides wigs made from real hair to children who have lost theirs due to cancer treatments.
Sharon has been searching for a new style for some time, but wanted to make sure her hair could be used to make a difference.
“I’ve wanted to cut my hair for a while but it seemed like such a waste for all this hair to be dumped in the bin whenever so many little girls face losing their hair as part of their cancer treatment. When I found out about the work of The Little Princess Trust, I knew that I wanted to support their work,” she said.
“For me, it’s just a haircut but I know that for a little girl who has had to lose her hair, it will mean so much more. Working with The Little Princess Trust has really opened my eyes to the difficulties children and young people living with cancer face so that’s why I’ve decided to try and raise some money for two local cancer charities, too,” added Sharon.
She said everyone she works with in SPAR has been so supportive including the customers who have been extremely generous.
“We can’t wait for the big haircut. There’s going to be a real buzz in store throughout the day and I hope as many people as possible can come and watch as I undergo my transformation,” she added.
