A cat suffering from cancer had its mouth sliced open on either side to create a sickening ‘joker’s smile’.
The incident which has outraged animal lovers occurred in Whitehill in Bangor at the weekend.
Kai returned home to his owner Tracey around 4pm on Sunday when she noticed he was trying to hide behind the living room curtain.
She then discovered blood pouring from his mouth. As she was cleaning the blood, she noticed his mouth had been ripped open on either side and his lower lip was hanging off. That’s when she realised it was deliberate.
An appeal is now being made on social media to find the culprits responsible for this sickening attack on Kai who has cancer. Did you see anyone acting suspiciously in the Whitehill/Woodview or Valentine Fields area?
This attack also happened in daylight. The attack would also have happened between 2.30pm and 4pm and the owner believes he may have returned home immediately after being attacked.
An appeal is being made to identify workmen who were in the area to see if they noticed any young people acting suspiciously.
Owner Tracy says she is overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.
Kai is home and settled with his mouth stitched up and he has a small metal plate holding his lower jaw together. His prognosis physically looks good, but Tracy says psychologically, it will take longer to recover.
