Someone has put a potato in the downstairs loo

A Mumsnet forum user is puzzled as to how a potato came to be among a stones and shells display in her downstairs loo.

She says no one will own up.

We redecorated our downstairs loo about 6 weeks ago, and I made a little display of stones and shells we’ve collected over the last year. I was having a clean up before we had guests over yesterday and I discovered somebody has moved one of the stones and put a tiny half potato in there!

DH and the kids both deny responsibility, and we have had no guests since the toilet was decorated. Also of note, is the fact that the last time we had new potatoes was back in July when we’d picked them from the allotment.

So where did the phantom potato come from? It’s cooked, because it’s fairly soft. Looks like it has a light coating of butter. How long has it been there and why have I only just noticed it?!

Some posters have suggested the children placed the potato in the loo.

It’s the kind of thing I’d have done as a prank when I was a kid, and I was very good at acting the innocent when questioned, said one user.

Another poster suggested: My guess is one of the DCs, who feels a bit guilty about not eating it and therefore isn’t saying.

Some years ago I found banana skins in my back garden. I asked next door’s DD (about 5 at the time) if she knew who was throwing them over the fence. She very convincingly informed me that it was the aged Methodist minister who was staying with them at the time.

It may have been the dog?

Do you have a dog OP? We have a dog that loves to steal potatoes and hide them in random places around the house. We have found a whole family of potatoes in his basket before now, under beds, behind the sofa you name it he hides them there. I have no idea why he does it!
