St John Ambulance last night had two emergency crews on standby in Antrim to assist with the pressure on the emergency services.
Antrim Hospital has warned that it is ‘operating beyond capacity’ amid the second COVID-19 wave.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service asked for patience on Monday evening.
Patients have been asked by the Northern Health Trust not to attend the emergency department unless they require urgent attention.
The Southern Health Trust also said it’s ‘extremely busy.’
Northern Ireland has a higher daily number of inpatients (342) compared to the number at the previous Easter peak, when the number of inpatients was 322.
