Tesco is to ration food and household supplies as a result of panic buying over the coronavirus.
Antibacterial gels, wipes and sprays, dried pasta, long life milk and some tinned vegetables will be limited to no more than five per person.
The rationing applies both in store and online.
Boots will also limit sales on hand sanitisers to two per person.
Asda will also permit only two bottles per person to be purchased – this is the supermarket’s only ration so far.
Sainsbury’s has no plans currently to restrict any products.
Shoppers have complained at the lack of anti-bacterial soap and hand sanitisers in stores.
Meanwhile, the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK is now 273 – a rise of 67.
It is up from 206 and is the biggest rise in a 24-hour period.
