A suspicious approach was made towards a boy in the Colinmill area of Dunmurry on Tuesday evening.
The incident happened sometime between 7:10pm and 7:30pm, as the boy was crossing the Pantridge Road, between Colinmill and Laurelbank.
A male driver of a silver Skoda pulled alongside him and spoke to the boy.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the report of the suspicious approach.
Inspector James Murphy said police received the report just after 10pm.
The suspect was described as having dark hair and a squeaky voice.
Anyone who was in the area and who saw this man in the vehicle or witnessed the interaction with the boy is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 2072 of 15/10/2019.
