‘Suspicious object’ in boot of car in Dungannon was ‘nothing untoward’

The security alert at Ballygawley Road, Dungannon has ended after a ‘suspicious object’ in the boot of a car was declared ‘nothing untoward.’

A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A and Class B controlled drugs and resisting police after his BMW car was stopped by police at around 1:20pm. He has been released on bail pending further enquires.

Police say the smell of cannabis was detected and after searching the vehicle, a suspicious object was discovered in the boot of the car.

Inspector Johnstone said while army technical officers dealt with the object, a section of the Ballygawley Road was closed.

“The object was declared nothing untoward and the road has now re-opened.

“The man remains in police custody assisting with their enquiries,” he added.
