Whitehead Railway Museum is hosting a teddy bear’s picnic today (Saturday).
Bring along your favourite bear and go on a memorable steam train ride. There will also be lots of fun children’s activities and the chance to win a special prize by taking part in the teddy bear hunt around the museum.
The return of the steam train rides on Saturdays for the summer season, marks the start of what is expected to be the award-winning museum’s busiest year. 2018 was recorded as the most successful year for the attraction, as it welcomed visitors from across the globe, including America, Australia and Europe and the numbers are set to continue.
RPSI General Manager Lisa Adair said they are really looking forward to this special event that marks the beginning of our summer season.
“We want to welcome all visitors locally and further afield to join us and make it a real fun family day out. This event is just one of the many exciting events coming up including our afternoon teas and steam and jazz events. The museum goes beyond just offering something for train aficionados, it’s a great family day for all ages and we hope it will be an unforgettable experience,” she said.
For the summer season, the train rides will now operate every Saturday in July and August from midday to 4pm, departing from Whitehead Railway Museum platform every 15 minutes. Tickets for the steam train rides and teddy bear’s picnic entry can be purchased on the day and are priced at £2 for children and £2.50 for adults which will include the train ride. Normal museum fees apply to go on a guided tour.
There is also the chance to visit the award-winning Whitehead Railway Museum which is open from 10am to 4pm, Thursday to Saturday and guided tours are at 11am, 1pm and 2.30pm. Special Sunday opening hours apply in July & August, with the museum opening from 12.30pm and guided tours are 1pm and 2.30pm.
