An 18-year-old man has been arrested following a robbery at a filling station at Antrim Road in Ballymena yesterday evening (Friday 1st May).
Police say shortly after 6pm it was reported that a man entered the filling station armed with an iron bar.
It is believed the man went behind the counter and took a sum of money from the till.
Two staff members, a man and a woman, who were inside the shop at the time were both pushed into the back. Although badly shaken by the incident, it is not believed either were seriously injured.
“A short time later, officers located the man and recovered the money taken during the incident. He was arrested on suspicion of robbery and is currently assisting police with their enquiries,” said Detective Sergeant Lenaghan.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
“We would continue to appeal to anyone with any information in relation to the incident to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 1469 01/05/20. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime,” added the Detective Sergeant.
