A reminder for commuters that the Toome bypass is closed in both directions until 6am tomorrow morning (Monday).
The closure is in force from the The Elk and the B18 Turn Off at Shivers Business Park.
Belfast bound traffic will be diverted off at the Elk and they will re-join a short distance later.
Magherafelt/country bound traffic has the longer diversion, coming off at Roguery Road Roundabout (the one beside the blue bridge) going in through Toome then via
Creagh Road onto Aughrim Road right down to the Magherafelt bypass.
Police say if everyone follows the signed diversions there won’t be any issues.
The diversion should only add a few minutes extra to your journey.
And police have issued some pointers:
If it says ROAD CLOSED, it means ROAD CLOSED, don’t stop and ask, ‘Is the road closed?’ If it was open it wouldn’t say CLOSED.
Diversions are clearly sign posted – If the yellow sign says Diverted Traffic go left.
Police say there are no shortcuts in these diversions.
“If you try and make one, traffic grinds to a halt. So, for example on the Belfast bound diversion, when you get to the end of the Creagh Road and its says Go Left, you’re thinking but that’s the wrong way, it would be quicker to go right in through Toome, it won’t be, turn left and you’ll be back on the bypass in less than a minute,” said a police spokesperson.
