Two shots are believed to have been fired in an incident at Lewis Drive in east Belfast in the early hours of Friday (22 January).
A number of men attempted to force entry to a house before smashing windows and damaging a car parked in the driveway.
They made off on foot.
Police say it happened just after 1am.
A report that two shots had been fired during this incident is also being investigated.
There have been no reports of any injuries.
