Give My Head Peace – LIVE 2019

The Give My Head Peace crew have been selling out theatres all over Northern Ireland for years and, fresh from their Christmas Special on BBC1, they hit the road with a brand new stage show in February and March. We’d like to tell you what the show’s going to be about but given Brexit, Trump, and an empty Stormont …. who knows? Anything can happen!

All we know for sure is that Ma, Cal, Da, Billy, and Dympna will be there. Uncle Andy can’t make it (he’s spending a year in bed in order to get a PIP claim) so he’s asked his old mucker Big Mervyn (BJ Hogg) to take over. And along with Ulster’s favourite menacing cleric Pastor Begbie (Paddy Jenkins) the gang guarantee a night of topical comedy, fantastic jokes and up to the minute satire. Plus there’ll be some superb stand-up from Tim McGarry.

  • Sunday 10 March to Saturday 16 March: GOH, Belfast.

Anthony Toner

Anthony Toner celebrates the release of his ninth studio album, Our Lady of the Wind and Rain with a launch concert (this time accompanied by a trio) at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast on Sunday February 17, followed by his most extensive tour yet, taking in a string of dates across Northern Ireland and some new venues in Scotland and England.

The new album features the Coleraine-born, Belfast-based songwriter in upbeat mood on a selection that ranges from up-tempo blues to late night torch songs, with some special guests making an appearance. Look out for cameo appearances by fellow songwriters Gareth Dunlop, Matt McGinn and Eilidh Patterson, acclaimed cellist Neil Martin, blues guitar legend Ronnie Greer, jazz virtuosos Linley Hamilton and Dave Howell – all of it pinned down by a core band of Toner on guitars, John McCullough on keyboards, Matt Weir on drums and Clive Culbertson on bass – who also produced.

  • Saturday 16 February: The Playhouse, DERRY/LONDONDERRY
  • Sunday 17 February: Lyric Theatre (with band), BELFAST
  • Friday 1 March: Marketplace Theatre, ARMAGH
  • Saturday 2 March: Island Arts Centre, LISBURN
  • Friday 8 March: Down Arts Centre, DOWNPATRICK
  • Friday 29 March: Courtyard Theatre Ballyearl, NEWTOWNABBEY

KIERAN GOSS AND ANNIE KINSELLA – ‘Oh, The Starlings’

Long hailed as one of Ireland’s leading songwriters and performers, Kieran Goss has collaborated with singer/songwriter Annie Kinsella on their debut duo album. Titled ‘Oh, The Starlings’, the record will be released worldwide on 1st March.

Recorded in New York with eight time Grammy winning engineer and mixer Kevin Killen at the helm (David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, U2, Elvis Costello), ‘Oh, The Starlings’ has been described by songwriter Rodney Crowell as: “So good, it’s heartbreaking… the record itself feels like an old friend.”

Having already won the kinds of reviews that signal their elevation onto the international stage, Kieran Goss and Annie Kinsella’s ‘Oh, The Starlings’ is a work of art with poetry and melody at its heart. While at times reminiscent of the great music of the 70s – Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell or Leonard Cohen – Goss and Kinsella have undeniably succeeded in creating something magnificently, uniquely theirs: an album that is both classic and modern, simple and multi-layered, quiet and dynamic.
