Button cell batteries, which are found in many Christmas toys, can poison children.
They are highly dangerous if accidentally swallowed and parents are asked to be vigilant and not to leave them within reach of children.
The Public Health Agency is reminding all parents to keep them out of sight.
The season sees a rise in the number of toys purchased containing these small, button-shaped batteries.
From dolls, to robots and moveable toys to musical Christmas cards and remote controls, they are found in a wide range of items.
