The Irish passenger who was killed when the Ethiopian Airlines plane crashed after takeoff from Addis Ababa has been named locally as aid worker Michael ‘Mick’ Ryan.
Mr Ryan, from Co Clare, worked with the United Nations World Food Programme. The plane had just taken off and was en route to Nairobi when the crash occurred this morning. 157 people from more than 30 countries were killed.
Deeply saddened at news of the death of Michael Ryan from Lahinch one of the 157 on board the Ethiopian Airlines plane. Michael worked with the UN on the World Food Programme helping the most vulnerable people on our planet. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

The United Nations has said some of its staff members were aboard the flight to Kenya, where the UN Environmental Assembly begins on Monday.
