The first new pictures of the wreck of the Titanic in 14 years show that the ruins are deteriorating.
An international team of deep-sea divers explored the wreck, which lies 3,800m beneath the Atlantic Ocean.
Some parts are in good condition, while other features have fallen victim to the sea.
The worst decay, according to the divers, was seen on the starboard side of the officers’ quarters.
Titanic historian Parks Stephenson said the captain’s bathtub has now gone.
“That whole deck house on that side is collapsing, taking with it the state rooms. And that deterioration is going to continue advancing,” he told media.
The Titanic has been underwater for more than 100 years.
It’s situated almost 400 miles off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
The liner, which was built in Belfast, hit an iceberg on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York in 1912. More than 1,500 people died in the tragedy.
The Titanic dives took place in a submersible which was built by Triton Submarines.
According to the crew, navigating the sub around the wreck was difficult.
Bad weather and strong underwater currents made the expedition challenging. Getting tangled up in the shipwreck was also an issue for the divers.
