Tesco is the latest supermarket to unveil its Christmas advertisement, but it has angered people on social media with its portrayal of a double-vaccinated Santa carrying a digital ‘COVID passport.’
Set to the soundtrack of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now, the ad marks the return of Christmas amid the pandemic. In the advert the characters overcome several mishaps, including puddings being set on fire.
However people have slammed the clip of Santa being threatened with quarantine unless he produces a ‘COVID passport’ which he does to cheers.
Social media users have threatened to boycott Tesco.
This is an opportunity to truly make an important point.
If everyone boycotted Tesco for their Christmas shopping/food, they'd feel it and every other retailer and business would take notice… https://t.co/cWkdxYKcJi pic.twitter.com/Kxvfp0qgm7

🎅 Very amusing in your new advert @Tesco, with Santa producing a COVID pass 😒
Would be terrible if we began to trend #BoycottTesco. #NoVaccinePassports#NoVaccinePassportsAnywhere pic.twitter.com/cnjI98FqKb
