There is a public meeting at the Bridewell in Magherfelt this Friday (December 6) to discuss the Anti-Mining Campaign in Northern Ireland along with fossil fuel extraction planned for multiple areas around Lough Neagh. Speakers are from Save Our Sperrins and from Extinction Rebellion. This is an event which will be of interest to environmentalists and those who are keen on green issues.

On Monday night (December 9) at Waterstones in Belfast, there will be a reading of Greta Thunberg’s inspirational book by young people who are leading the way in campaigning for climate action.
Friends of the Earth will be joined by Youth Strike for Climate Derry and Múscail (Awake) – a Belfast-based climate action network. Young activists will read chosen extracts from Greta’s book. This event is part of the NI Human Rights Festival and it takes place from 5pm to 6pm.

Bruno Dumont’s second film about the historical heroine, following Jeannette: The Childhood of Joan of Arc, which received its Northern Irish premiere during QFT50 last year. Adapted once again, this second instalment follows Joan through her battles against the English in 1429 on to her capture, trial and execution.

If you are in Omagh, you can go along to the Strule Arts Centre this Thursday (December 5) to see Strabane Chamber Choir in concert. Strabane Chamber Choir was formed in September. The choir draws members from Tyrone, Derry/Londonderry and Donegal from a variety of backgrounds but linked by a common love of choral music. The choir are the current holders of three National titles won in Choral festivals at Derry, Sligo and Navan. Loreto Grammar Senior Choir will be special guests on the night.
