A fun-filled bookish half-term event for Harry Potter lovers takes place at Glengormley Library. The Harry Potter Quiz Night on Thursday, February 13 is for ages 8-12. Booking is essential – contact staff at the library. Children can come dressed up. The event is from 6:45pm to 7:45pm.

If you haven’t had enough of Baby Shark, then you can get along to Lagan Valley Island in Lisburn on Sunday, February 9 for a fantastic all singing and dancing production.

Join lots of friendly characters on Old MacDonald’s Farm for fun, songs and excitement at the Belvoir Studio Theatre in Belfast on Friday, February 23.

Adventures on Old MacDonald’s Farm is a show from DreamWorld Promotions.

Friendly Scarecrow is enjoying his first day on Old MacDonald’s Farm and loves meeting all of the colourful characters that live there. When a mystery unfolds on the farm, the audience will have to help Scarecrow find out what’s going on.

With an original script and new songs written for this production, along with many singalong favourites, this professionally produced show promises plenty of fun for younger children.

LUMI at Queen’s Film Theatre in Belfast presents a neon, blood-sucking ‘80s classic The Lost Boys on Wednesday, February 26.

Featuring a cast of current and future stars, including Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, and both Coreys (Feldman and Haim), The Lost Boys is one of the defining pieces of ’80s pop culture.

Teenage brothers Michael (Patric) and Sam (Haim) move to a beach town called Santa Carla. Sam falls in with a group of comic book nerds while Michael falls for a girl named Star (Jami Gertz) who has a connection to David (Sutherland), the head of a local biker gang… who also happen to be vampires. It’s up to Sam and his geeky friends to save Michael before it’s too late.

LUMI is Queen’s Film Theatre’s new offer for people under 30.

Alternative band Reverend and the Makers are at the Limelight 2 in Belfast on Friday, February 21.

The indie rock band is from Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The band is fronted by Jon McClure, nicknamed ‘The Reverend’. Their debut album, The State of Things (2007), helped them gain success in the UK and many will remember the UK top 10 single ‘Heavyweight Champion of the World.’

Also at the Limelight on March 14 is The Lightening Seeds.

‘Armagh Stories: Voices from the Gaol’ is a documentary film edited from interviews conducted inside Armagh Gaol in 2006 as part of the Prisons Memory Archive.

It will be screened at the Market Place Theatre in Armagh on Wednesday, February 5.

Armagh Gaol served as Northern Ireland’s only female prison during the Troubles until its closure in 1986. At the height of the conflict, the number of female political prisoners grew from two in 1971 to more than one hundred between 1972 and 1976. Due to the growing prison population during the Troubles, Armagh also housed male remand and sentenced prisoners.

In the film, prison staff, prisoners, chaplains, doctors, solicitors and teachers tell their experiences, mostly for the first time, back in the Victorian site. Following the screening there will be a panel discussion.

This event will take place in the main auditorium on an unreserved seating basis.

If you like the music of Elton John and haven’t seen him, you can enjoy the next best thing. The Elton John tribute is at the Strand Arts Centre on March 12.

Also at the Strand Arts Centre is a screening of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind on Thursday, March 5. Of all Steven Spielberg’s masterpieces, Close Encounters of the Third Kind is the one that must be seen on a big screen. The film won the Oscar for Best Cinematography, as well as a Special Achievement Award for sound effects editing.

Although aliens begin to make their presence felt to humans, the government denies their existence. However, when Roy (Richard Dreyfuss), an electrical lineman, encounters a UFO, he is drawn to the Wyoming wilderness.

A Night Of Songs from the Musicals takes place at Ballyearl Arts Theatre in Newtownbbey on Saturday, March 7. This event is hosted by My Sweetheart And Me and will feature many family favourites.
