Dungannon Leisure Centre is set to reopen this weekend following a facelift.
The centre, which has been undergoing extensive refurbishment since April last year, will open its doors on Friday (31 January) with a full weekend of free activities to celebrate.
The centre’s swimming pools, fitness suite, changing facilities and reception area all have benefited from upgrades.
Renovations to the pool include new tiling, pool linings, surrounds, filters and structural work, while the gym has been fitted out with a completely new range of fitness equipment. The centre’s squash court has also been revamped.
The £1.8 million works represent a significant investment in Dungannon and in leisure by Mid Ulster District Council, giving a welcome boost to the quality of facilities.
The current building will be able to offer a high quality, broad range of leisure opportunities in a revitalised, more modern environment.
Additional lighting and car parking spaces have been installed at the front of the centre. New opening hours will also be in operation from the opening.
Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Martin Kearney has welcomed the reopening of the centre.
“We are delighted that Dungannon Leisure Centre is reopening after its extended closure for essential structural and refurbishment work. We know that the Dungannon public has been waiting very patiently for the reopening, and we hope that in revitalising the centre, users have the opportunity for not only an improved experience but gain motivation to become more active, more often in the new surroundings,” he added.
The centre is opening its doors open from Friday, with a weekend of activities to celebrate. Customers can enjoy free access to the pool and gym, and free fitness class taster sessions are happening on Saturday, and family fun on Sunday.
