A five-year-old girl cut off her hair after succumbing to the sick Momo challenge online.

The girl from Gloucestershire was following instructions from the creepy character which has been appearing on social media platforms and in YouTube videos.

The hair salon, Toddler Trims, posted images of the child having hacked off her hair. The salon is urging parents and carers to be aware of what their children are playing online.

‘Momo’ is reportedly popping up in innocent Peppa Pig videos, as well as in Fortnite, Minecraft and ‘unboxing’ videos showing kids opening surprises.

Schools have issued notices to parents to make them aware of the dangers of this latest online craze.

An NSPCC spokesperson said the constantly evolving digital world means a steady influx of new apps and games which can be hard for parents to keep track of.

“The NSPCC publishes advice and guidance for parents on discussing online safety with their children, as well as Net Aware – the UK’s only parental guide to social media and gaming apps,” said a spokesperson.

If adults are concerned or have any questions on how to approach the subject with their children you can contact the NSPCC Helpline on 0808 800 5000 or visit the NSPCC website.
